Buying New and Used Offshore Winches

Remora Docks lists 35 offshore winches and line-handling equipment for sale or rent—from 2T deck winches to 1,800-metre storage winches and a 4,000m LARS system. Manufacturers represented include NOV, ACE, Rapp Hydema, IHC Hytop, DMT, EMCÉ, Karmoy, La Naval, Lantec, Pull Master, Deep Down and Maschinenfabrik Brohl. SWL capacities range from 2T to 150T+, with hydraulic, electro-hydraulic and electric drive configurations. Many units are new or unused—delivered for cancelled projects or held as surplus stock with zero running hours. Examples include IHC Hytop EW2100 intermediate winches (2,100 kN line pull, YOM 2016), IHC Hytop EW1690 draghead winches (1,690 kN, YOM 2016), DMT hydraulic towing winches (40T pull, delivered 2009, unused), and an ACE 3206 constant tension winch (10T SWL, used once). Several units are available with or without refurbishment and recertification. Remora Docks' managed buying service can coordinate inspection, recertification and delivery logistics for any unit in our inventory.

Types of Offshore Winches Available

TUGGER WINCHES The most listed type in our inventory. Available at 7T, 10T and 17T SWL—all unused or with zero operating hours. Also listed: DMT 10T tugger winches (100 kN nominal pull, 45 kW electric motor, 690V/60Hz) and a Pull Master M50 offshore winch. Used for barge positioning, deck cargo securing and general pulling duties.

TOWING WINCHES Two unused DMT hydraulic towing winches (40T pull at 10 m/min high-pull mode, 17T at 20 m/min low-pull, 160T brake holding force, YOM 2009) from a cancelled newbuilding project. Karmoy trawl winches (two units, drum capacity 1,800m of Ø34mm wire, overhauled 2023) also available.

MOORING WINCHES A four-unit mooring winch system (23T SWL, undergoing refurbishment and recertification, available for rental from early 2026). A buyer is also seeking 8-point mooring winches at 150T+ capacity—sellers can respond directly.

HYDRAULIC WINCHES General-purpose hydraulic drum winches at 20T (250m of Ø32mm wire, 16 m/min, constant tension optional) and 32T (200m of Ø42mm wire, 30 m/min, constant tension optional), both with spooling devices. A 25T Rapp Hydema winch (requires refurbishment) and 20T marine winches (offered with refurb and recertification) round out this segment. NOV hydraulic utility and manrider winches are available across multiple models (W-U-05-H through W-U-15-H, up to 15T SWL).

CONSTANT TENSION AND SPECIALIST WINCHES ACE 3206 (10T SWL, Hägglunds Viking motor, 55 kW HPU, as-new condition). EMCÉ winches: a 22T unit (60m cable) and an SB-306 EDL (400m, 22 kW, YOM 2019). Storage winches from Maschinenfabrik Brohl (Type RAMW-35, YOM 2014, 1,800m of 90mm rope, 50 kN max pull). La Naval ECO 675 ACC ladder winch (new, never installed).

LAUNCH AND RECOVERY SYSTEMS (LARS) A Deep Down 4,000m LARS for WROV deployment, previously used from a diving support vessel. Installed footprint: 10m height x 13.3m length x 4.6m width.

ELECTRIC WINCHES AND WINDLASSES Electric winch DMDB800-00 (800 kN drum load, 800m of Ø70mm wire). Electric windlass DMJ76-00 (76mm chain, 274 kN working load, 82.5m anchorage depth). A 75 kW IEC motor (1,482 rpm, 4-pole, 50Hz) suitable for winch drive applications.

ANCILLARY EQUIPMENT Diesel/hydraulic spooling winch (9.2T SWL, available for rent). Man-riding winch (7.5T series, YOM 2009). New hose reel winch (Ø204mm hose, 40m capacity, 440V/60Hz). Various ODIM seismic winches available on inspection.

Frequently Asked Questions — Offshore winches

35 listings across eight categories: tugger winches (7T–17T SWL); towing winches (up to 40T pull); mooring winch systems (23T–150T+); general-purpose hydraulic winches (20T–32T with constant tension options); constant tension and specialist winches from ACE, EMCÉ and Maschinenfabrik Brohl; a Deep Down 4,000m launch and recovery system (LARS); electric winches, windlasses and drive motors; and ancillary equipment including man-riding winches, spooling winches and hose reels. Manufacturers include NOV, ACE, Rapp Hydema, IHC Hytop, DMT, EMCÉ, Karmoy, La Naval, Lantec, Pull Master and Deep Down. Many units are unused or from cancelled projects.

SWL capacities range from 2T deck winches to 150T+ mooring systems. Line pull ratings span 50 kN (storage winches) to 2,100 kN (IHC Hytop intermediate winches). Wire capacities range from 60m (EMCÉ 22T) to 4,000m (Deep Down LARS) and 1,800m (Maschinenfabrik Brohl storage winch, 90mm rope). Drive types include hydraulic (Hägglunds radial piston motors), electro-hydraulic and fully electric (up to 75 kW). Constant tension capability is available on several models including the ACE 3206 and the 20T/32T hydraulic drum winches.

Key inspection areas: drum and shaft condition—check for scoring, corrosion and bearing wear; brake system testing—verify static holding capacity against rated load; hydraulic motor and gearbox condition—inspect for leaks, pressure test and check service hours; wire rope or chain condition per manufacturer specs; spooling gear alignment and levelwind operation; control systems including constant tension functionality if fitted; structural integrity of frame and mounting points; and documentation—load test certificates, manufacturer data books and maintenance logs. Winches marketed as 'unused' should still be inspected for storage degradation (seal condition, hydraulic fluid, corrosion). Remora Docks' managed buying service can coordinate independent inspections and recertification.

Most winches up to approximately 30 tonnes ship by flatbed truck or low-loader within Europe. Heavier units—such as the IHC Hytop intermediate winches (61T each) or Maschinenfabrik Brohl storage winches (28T)—require heavy-haulage transport or port-to-port shipping as deck cargo. The Deep Down LARS (10m x 13.3m footprint) needs specialist heavy transport. Wire rope is typically shipped on the drum but may be removed for oversized units. Most listings are sold 'as is, where is'—our managed services team can coordinate transport and logistics quotations.

Two options. Self-managed: list directly on our marketplace, reaching offshore contractors, vessel operators, shipyards and marine equipment brokers. Managed selling: our team handles listing, targeted buyer outreach, inspection coordination and negotiation—particularly effective for surplus project stock, multi-unit lots (e.g. mooring winch sets, draghead winch packages) or high-value specialist equipment like LARS systems. Contact support@remoradocks.com with your equipment details, certification status and location.

New offshore winches from manufacturers like NOV, IHC and Rapp Hydema carry lead times of 6–18 months and substantial cost, particularly for custom-specified units. Our inventory includes multiple unused winches from cancelled projects—IHC Hytop units (YOM 2016, never installed), DMT towing winches (YOM 2009, zero hours), and a La Naval ladder winch (new, never installed)—offering new-condition equipment at used pricing with immediate availability. For project-based mobilisations or vessel upgrades, sourcing a used or surplus winch avoids long procurement cycles while keeping functional, certified equipment in service.
